It’s absolutely the opposite of the Gherkin. It’s good sensible housing, in the way that housing should be built.

Cressingham Gardens is a council estate situated on the edge of Brockwell Park in Lambeth. It was designed by the visionary architect Ted Hollamby in the 1970s in order to promote equality of living.

Regeneration plans by the local council mean that Cressingham Gardens is under threat from demolition. This trailer, from the short film Homes Under the Sledgehammer, presents the views of Cressingham Garden residents on the planned regeneration and the potential loss of their homes.

The video above is part of the campaign to save Cressingham Gardens. The campaign won an appeal against demolition plans in 2015, however their most recent high court battle against Lambeth Council in 2016 was lost. The fight continues.
